What Embry-Riddle weights most

Embry-Riddle prioritizes demonstrated commitment to aviation, aerospace, or STEM careers, favoring applicants with flight hours, aviation internships, aerospace research, Robotics/FAA certifications, or strong math/science coursework. They weight technical fit and hands-on experience more heavily than broad extracurricular breadth, and they are more forgiving of nontraditional transcripts if the applicant shows clear vocational focus and safety-mindedness in aviation activities.

Supplemental essay strategy

Use the supplement to explain specific vocational pathway: reference Daytona Beach flight ops, the Prescott or Daytona flight labs, the College of Engineering or the ERAU Unmanned Systems Lab, and name faculty, research groups, or simulator resources you plan to use. If you have flight time, a drone certificate, or a STEM project, quantify it and state how ERAU s facilities and internship pipelines will accelerate that exact goal.

Where to focus next

If you only have time for one thing this month, do this:

  1. Read 2 admitted-student essays from Embry-Riddle (search official admissions site or Reddit r/embryriddle). Notice the level of specificity — that's the bar.
  2. Write the ‘why this school’ supplement first, before anything else. If you can't fill 250 words with school-specific reasons, pick a different school.
  3. Find one current student to ask about their experience — admissions offices often connect prospective applicants with current students. The follow-up email becomes specific essay material.
