What Pace weights most

Pace weights demonstrated interest and major-specific preparation heavily—business applicants who can articulate Wall Street or finance career paths, or performing arts applicants with portfolio evidence, move ahead of generalist peers at comparable stat ranges. The school is notably looser on GPA/test scores than selectivity tier suggests (86% acceptance), meaning strong fit signals and clear major alignment matter far more than squeezing out another 20 SAT points. They're stricter on demonstrated engagement with their specific programs (Lubin internship networks, arts facilities, Seidenberg CS labs) and less interested in applicants treating Pace as a safety school.

Supplemental essay strategy

Use the 'why us' prompt to anchor yourself to concrete resources—name specific internship pipelines (especially Lubin's Wall Street partnerships for business), mention campus visits, or reference particular faculty/labs if applying to CS. Avoid generic praise for "NYC location"; instead show how you'll activate Pace's particular ecosystem (e.g., how their performing arts center connects to your creative goals, or how their commute model lets you intern while studying). If your stats sit in the lower half of their 50%, lead with major-specific passion and clear career vision rather than trying to justify borderline metrics.

Where to focus next

If you only have time for one thing this month, do this:

  1. Read 2 admitted-student essays from Pace (search official admissions site or Reddit r/pace). Notice the level of specificity — that's the bar.
  2. Write the ‘why this school’ supplement first, before anything else. If you can't fill 250 words with school-specific reasons, pick a different school.
  3. Find one current student to ask about their experience — admissions offices often connect prospective applicants with current students. The follow-up email becomes specific essay material.
